Edgar “Pat” Stacy

Pat StacyBrightspire Foundation is honored to announce a meaningful estate gift of over $10,000 from former Glenaire resident Edgar "Pat" Stacy to support the Micou Browne Endowment for resident financial assistance. In addition to his estate gift, Pat gave generously to the Foundation throughout his lifetime, with a special interest in supporting resident financial assistance through Glenaire's Annual Appeal. He was also an anonymous member of The Glenaire Society since 2015.

Pat was born in Ceylon, MN on November 26, 1935, to Frank Thomas Stacy and Jewell Inez Young Stacy before moving to Georgia and Florida, where he would spend his childhood being raised by his father and stepmother, Francis Helen Dodson Stacy. After his father's death in 1956, Pat and his stepmother moved back to her home in Halifax County, VA.

After graduating high school in Milledgeville, GA, Pat spent a year studying at Virginia Tech at which point he decided to leave to join the Navy. He began his four-year Navy career at boot camp in San Diego, CA before studying at electronics technical school at Treasure Island. He went on to serve on USS Herbert DDR 833, and USS Cogswell DD651. After Navy service he graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1960. After graduation, Pat worked for RCA as a Radar Technician on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System in Thule, Greenland. In 1963, he accepted a teaching position at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC where he taught electronics. While teaching, Pat met his wife, Betty Joyce Williams, and the two were married in 1964. He began working for IBM in 1967, where he would work for 27 years until his retirement.

Pat, who was known for his good sense of humor, enjoyed birdwatching, hunting, fishing, hosting friends at his beach house, watching This Old House and anything mechanical. He was often found helping others with work projects and was always happy to help where he could.

He especially enjoyed building decks with his friend Graham Peterson. Pat and Betty were married for over 40 years and moved into Glenaire before her death in 2011. Pat’s time at Glenaire was filled with making new friendships, including the special one he made with Sue DeVaul. Pat passed on November 5, 2021. Pat is survived by sixteen nieces and nephews.

“We are honored and grateful that Pat decided to include Glenaire in his estate plans,” shares Ben Stevens, Executive Director at Glenaire. “He deeply cared for others and was a great friend to many here at Glenaire. His gift will help ensure that Glenaire is always able to provide assistance to residents in need.”
