Mary A. Clinton

Mary A. Clinton

The Presbyterian Homes Foundation is pleased to announce that former Scotia Village resident Mary A. Clinton has provided a generous gift through her estate of more than $14,000. This estate gift was made possible through a charitable gift annuity that Mary established to benefit the Caring and Sharing Endowment, and to support resident financial assistance at Scotia Village. Having taken this step several years ago, Mary was a member of Scotia’s Hix Society.

Raised in upstate New York, Mary was the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Quinn. Following high school, she attended Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School. In her early career she worked for IBM in Owego, New York, and later transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, when her father took a job there and moved the family. It was in Norfolk that she met and married naval officer John Clinton. Mary spent the next 25 years as a Navy wife, raising three children—Bill, Jim and Cathy—and working as a corporate training specialist and later a front office receptionist at the local high school.

In 2009, after retirement, Mary and John moved to Scotia Village. There, Mary was active in both the Social Activities Committee and the Building and Grounds Committee. Her most beloved involvement, however, was spent lovingly tending to the Scotia Village Rose Garden. The garden was a constant source of pride and joy for Mary, who could often be found there, working with the roses.

Mary was a member of the Saint Mary Catholic Church and sang in the choir. Other things Mary greatly enjoyed were traveling the world, needlework and cooking.

“I saw Mrs. Clinton most mornings between April and November…she would be in the rose garden as I was getting to work,” shares Allen Johnson, Executive Director of Scotia Village. “Fitting location for Mrs. Clinton…she was a nurturer, and always interested in the success of others as evidenced by her thoughtful gift. I miss her.”
