Dr. Marian SollederThe Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. (dba Brightspire Foundation) is honored to announce that former River Landing at Sandy Ridge resident, Dr. Marian Solleder, has provided a tremendous gift through her estate of over $91,000 to the endowment for resident financial assistance.

Marian was born in Columbus, OH and grew up in Flushing, Long Island, NY. She was a lifelong scholar of health education, obtaining degrees from Oberlin College, the University of Iowa and The Ohio State University, where she received her PhD. Her career was college and university based. She retired from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, in 1988, as professor emerita. She used her knowledge and her passion to promote the instruction of health education in the public schools of North Carolina.

Her other interests included all things outdoors, traveling (she particularly enjoyed the mountains), and creating beautiful handwoven baskets. In her working years, Marian enjoyed participating in professional organizations where she often held leadership positions at the state and national levels. She believed in higher education for women and was a dedicated member of The P.E.O. Sisterhood.

In retirement, Marian volunteered her interest and leadership to the Shepherd's Center of Greensboro. At River Landing at Sandy Ridge, her home of sixteen years, she spearheaded the Quiz Bowl, and assisted with the lifelong learning program, enLighten, by helping to select the courses that would be available to residents. Marian was an active and involved resident.

"She was a very intellectual lady who loved being a part of this community," shares Tom Smith, Executive Director of River Landing at Sandy Ridge. "We are truly grateful for her most generous gift which will provide security for our residents, through the endowment for resident financial assistance."
