Lucille and Lawrence Betts Harris

Lucille and Lawrence Betts Harris

The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. (dba Brightspire Foundation) has received a generous gift of over $145,000 from the estate of former Glenaire residents, Lawrence and Lucille Betts Harris, who notified the Foundation in 1998 of their plans to leave a future gift of appreciated securities and were members of the Glenaire Society. As loyal supporters of Glenaire, during their lifetimes, they made over 360 charitable gifts to bolster Glenaire's mission; many were gifts made in memorial of fellow Glenaire residents. Their exceptional gift has been placed in Glenaire's Micou Browne Endowment, which provides resident financial assistance.

Both natives of North Carolina, the Harrises were married in 1953 and were married 56 years. Lucille was from Pender County and attended UNC Women's College in Greensboro. During her career, she worked in the administrative offices of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, first in Wilmington and later in Raleigh.

In her time at Glenaire, Lucille was an active participant in several programs there.

"I got to know Mrs. Harris well in 2001 in preparation for the 2002 Strategic Plan as I would pick her up and drive her to Fayetteville for the meetings," says Tim Webster, President of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. "During our road trips her passion for senior living and her Glenaire family became evident. It is amazing to me that she had a part in a strategic plan nearly 20 years ago and many of the tactics of that plan have paved the way for the successes that we enjoy today. She was an amazing lady that found something positive in all circumstances. What a wonderful legacy!"
