River Landing at Sandy Ridge (RLSR) recently celebrated the donation, delivery and dedication of a new piano for its multi-purpose room (MPR). John and Verna Croom, residents at RLSR, gave a generous gift to purchase the new piano, so that RLSR would have a high-quality piano for professional musicians to play during performances in the MPR.

A committee consisting of pianists, music teachers, conductors, RLSR staff and a professional piano tuner was assembled to select the piano. The committee took a trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, to evaluate and assess various pianos at Ruggero Piano. Three residents, all pianists, tested pianos to determine which would be the perfect fit, ultimately deciding that the Yamaha would provide the necessary tone and volume for the MPR. Jo Ann Leist gifted the piano cover in honor of her late husband, Bill Leist.

A dedication event was held on Monday, June 6, and a small selection of talented residents were invited to showcase the capabilities of the piano.

Comments were shared and a prayer of blessing was offered over the piano and all who play it. Residents and staff attended the dedication event to listen to the new piano. While classical songs highlighted the piano’s capabilities, a collection of songs to which residents sang along were played as well. A big thank you from The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. (dba Brightspire Foundation) and RLSR to John and Verna Croom for their generous gift.
