Jane Billinger

Jane Billinger

With a hefty stack of books by bestselling author, David Baldacci, on the bookcase, Scotia Village resident, Jane Billinger, shares more about her journey.

Jane worked as an educator in Detroit for over 20 years and then finished out her career as a librarian in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Books and life-long learning have always been important to Jane, who remembers riding her bike to the library as she grew up in a Cleveland suburb. At age 50, Jane made an important decision—she went back to school to receive her media degree. She served as the librarian at Pine Forest Middle School, located in Fayetteville, NC, for the last 10 years of her career.

In August of 2019, Jane's journey led her to Laurinburg. Jane was grateful for her love of reading during some of the most challenging times of 2020. She read hundreds of books and shared them with other friends at Scotia while also enjoying door exercise classes and hall Bible study.

When thinking about the reason she chose to move to Scotia Village and why she supports the Foundation, she cites the promise that the community has to her—to provide for her, even if she runs short on funds at no fault of her own. Jane shares, "if Scotia Village is going to make that promise to me, I can promise to give back so that someone else can have the same benefits. It provides such peace of mind." Motivated to "pay it forward," Jane made the decision to include The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. (dba Brightspire Foundation) and Scotia Village in her estate plans and became a member of Scotia's Hix Society in 2020.

"From knowing Ms. Billinger these past few years, her desire to 'pay it forward' comes as little surprise. She's a caring and gracious person. We are so fortunate to have her in the Scotia Village family," shares Allen Johnson, Executive Director of Scotia Village.

When counting her blessings, Jane says: "Scotia Village has given me everything!" We are grateful for Jane and the joyful way she chooses to invest in our mission through her personal philanthropy.
