Art and Sarah Glover

Art and Sarah GloverBrightspire Foundation has received a generous gift from the estate of former River Landing at Sandy Ridge (RLSR) residents Arthur J. Glover “Art” and Sarah G. Glover. This gift will be directed to the Resident Subsidy Endowment to support resident financial assistance. Art and Sarah had a long history of volunteering at The Presbyterian Home of High Point, then RLSR, all while giving generously to the Foundation. Sarah served as a member of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. Board of Advisors, the RLSR Board of Trustees, and The Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors (now Brightspire Foundation). Sarah also had two siblings connected to Brightspire with her brother, John Goodman, having served on the Scotia Village Board of Trustees while her sister, Caroline Goodman, lived at The Presbyterian Home of High Point until transitioning to RLSR.

Sarah was born on November 19, 1937, in Kinston, NC to Frank and Edna Walton Goodman. She graduated with a master’s in mathematics from UNC Chapel Hill. She worked for AT&T Solutions until co-founding SISS, Inc. Art was born on December 15, 1936, in Salisbury, NC to Dr. Francis and Mary Boyer Glover. After graduating from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism, he studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Once completing his studies, he served for two years in the Army before starting his career as a photographer for Alderman Studios where he would work for 40 years.

Art and Sarah were actively engaged as volunteers in the greater Greensboro and High Point areas. Art involved himself as a coach with Greensboro Youth Soccer and as a middle school youth advisor/confirmation teacher at First Presbyterian Church of High Point where he was a deacon and elder. Sarah spent many years serving at First Presbyterian Church of High Point as a member of the Presbyterian Women, Covenant Choir, youth leader, confirmation leader, elder, and deacon. She also received a lifetime Presbyterian Women honorary membership due to her service. In 2013, Art was nominated for a statewide LeadingAge volunteer award for his long-term commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy. For years, he spent six to ten hours a week volunteering and leading musical activities for residents of healthcare at The Presbyterian Home of High Point, continuing once it transitioned to RLSR. Art and Sarah were known to be dedicated to their church, children, and grandchildren. They instilled a deep love of volunteerism in their family, with their children, Mary and Chris, spending over 40 years and their grandchildren spending more than 18 years visiting with residents.

After moving to RLSR, Art and Sarah involved themselves further by providing musical entertainment for residents in assisted living and healthcare. In addition to the musical entertainment, they also provided religious programming, arts and crafts, and birthday and anniversary activities. Art would often take pictures of residents at special functions which he would then develop and give to residents and their families. Art and Sarah improved the quality of life for countless residents and family members at The Presbyterian Home of High Point and RLSR. Their example of endless care for residents, especially those in healthcare, will be remembered by staff, residents, friends, and family members.

Art and Sarah were preceded in death by their parents and Sarah’s sister, Caroline Goodman. They are survived by their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Fraley and husband, Steve; son, Chris Glover and wife, April; grandchildren, Jessica Fraley Maugel, Drew Glover, Kyndal Glover and Carter Glover; as well as Sarah’s brother, John Goodman.

“Art and Sarah touched so many hearts while serving and living at River Landing,” shares Tom Smith, Executive Director of RLSR. “Their ability to bring joy to those they served was a great example of how we want to love and care for residents. We are grateful to have had Art and Sarah as residents and we are so thankful that they were such a unique part of our history. We hope to continue to follow their examples serving our friends and neighbors.”
